Project Overview

Basics

Degraded Channel and Riparian Areas
Degraded Riparian Areas and Large Wood Recruitment
North Fork Deep Creek Stream Restoration

  • Degraded Channel Structure and Complexity
  • Degraded Floodplain Connectivity and Function

Completed
Metro’s North Fork Deep Creek natural includes 167 acres over three sites between the communities of Boring and Barton. These sites include both mature riparian and upland forests in a deep canyon that includes 8200 linear feet (1.5 miles) of North Fork Deep Creek.

The project includes helicopter and land based placement of 300 pieces of large wood, intended to improve habitat complexity and restart channel processes that create complex habitats. Project partners include Metro, Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife and Clackamas River Basin Council.

Focal Species

Focal Species

The project is designed to drive geomorphic processes that will create and sustain habitat in the coming decades. The large wood placed instream will provide cover and feeding zones for age 1+ Coho and steelhead, provide juvenile rearing and adult holding habitat, promote gravel sorting, and likely lead to increased spawning habitat for adults.
