Degraded Channel and Riparian Areas
Degraded Channel Structure and Complexity
Rock Creek is a tributary to the lower Clackamas River. The restoration project enhanced in-stream habitat and riparian vegetation on approximately 1,800 feet of Rock Creek at its confluence with the Clackamas River. The project increases in-stream habitat complexity with large wood, reconnects the Rock Creek to its floodplain, helps to stabilize stream banks in some locations, improves water quality, and restores approximately 12 acres of riparian vegetation to native species. This site provides thermal refuge, valuable rearing and spawning habitat, and a resting location for salmon migrating up the river. The educational component of the project brings hundreds of students from North Clackamas School District to the site for hands-on educational studies.
