Degraded Channel and Riparian Areas
Degraded Channel Structure and Complexity
The Oak Bluff Reach of Mt Scott Creek is in an urban setting between I-205 and 3-Creeks Natural Area. Development has significantly altered hydrology and sediment, resulting in flashier peak flows, flooding and transport of sediment out of the project reach. Lack of riparian vegetation and wood have reduced stream complexity. Steelhead, cutthroat and coho use this reach, but in low numbers. The project will provide habitat for these species. Partners seek to install approx. 25 pieces of large wood, create a 1.6 acre backwater, and replace invasive vegetation with natives over 7.6 acres. Further, we seek to increase opportunities for the public to interact with this natural area.
Targeted Performance Measure
- Large Wood Placement: 3,000.00 lf
- Off-Channel Wetland Area Increase: 69,600.00 sq ft
- Riparian / Floodplain Native Planting Area: 7.60 acres
Focal Species
- Coho
- Fall Chinook
- Spring Chinook
- Steelhead
