Degraded Channel and Riparian Areas Degraded Channel Structure and Complexity
The confluence of Johnson Creek with the Willamette River serves as important salmon habitat not only for Johnson Creek fish but also those runs destined for the upper Willamette as well. Because of its cooler water temperatures, the lower 1.5 miles of Johnson Creek is used by migrating spring Chinook as cold water refugia. In 2011 JCWC added 150 pieces of large wood to the confluence. Since that time half the wood has worked its way free and floated downstream. We now know more about stress forces and eddies in the area. This phase 2 project will supplement the phase I work and use more advanced installation techniques to ensure the structures perform and stay in place.

Targeted Performance Measure

  • Large Wood Placement: 900.00 lf
  • Riparian / Floodplain Native Planting Channel Length : 500.00 lf
