The Strategic Restoration Action Plan for the Abernethy Creek Watershed
Project Overview
Basics
The Strategic Restoration Action Plan for the Abernethy Creek Watershed
Completed
The Strategic Restoration Action Plan for the Abernethy Creek Watershed provides a prioritized list of restoration actions intended to support recovery of native fish species in the Lower Columbia River and Willamette River evolutionary significant units (ESU’s). The plan will cover the entire Abernethy Creek watershed, including tributary streams that provide habitat for native fish as well as non-fish bearing streams that contribute to water quality in lower reaches of the watershed. The work will create a prioritized restoration action plan based upon detailed analyses and site selection from previous stream surveys as well as the Lower Columbia Recovery Plan.

Focal Species
Focal Species
Possible reintroduction of the species in the lower watershed is identified.
The primary focus of the Partnership’s restoration effort is on juvenile spring Chinook, coho, steelhead, and Pacific lamprey juvenile rearing habitat because rearing habitat is the key tributary factor affecting these populations. The Partnership is concentrating on restoration for salmon and steelhead populations with the assumption that comprehensive habitat improvements will also benefit Pacific lamprey, bull trout, and other fish and wildlife populations.
Possible reintroduction of the species in the lower watershed is identified.
Large numbers of spawning locations have been documented in the lower watershed and additional restoration opportunities exist.
Juvenile are present in low numbers in the upper watershed where suitable spawning habitat exists. The plan describes multiple restoration project opportunities. Higher numbers of spawning sites are located in the lower watershed where additional restoration opportunities are identified.
